Story created by and read by Tommy D.
Tommy woke up in his bed early in the morning like he did every day. He snuggled in his sheets. It was Saturday. He didn’t have to get up for school. He could hear his mom in the kitchen making breakfast. He hoped it was pancakes! That was his favorite!
When he stepped out of bed, he noticed that it was very cold inside the house.
That’s strange!
His mom didn’t like to keep the house so cold. Tommy grabbed a hoodie and put it on. Just as he was about to leave his room, he heard footsteps outside of his door. It was probably his mom coming to tell him that breakfast was ready.
The door opened slowly.
His mom was at the door, but she didn’t look like herself.
Her skin was green, and her eyes were pale. Her lips were purple, and her hair was gray. She was a zombie!
She moved slowly into the room.
Tommy backed away, crawling back into his bed. This is NOT what his mom looked like. She gave him a scary smile, with black gums and missing teeth.
“Look who came to visit,” she said in a hoarse voice.
One by one, each of Tommy’s family members walked into the room.
His dad, his grandmother, his sister…and they were all zombies!
Every one of them was green and gray. Their arms were twisted in sick ways.
Their eyes popped out of their heads.
And the smell! They smelled like a week’s old garbage sitting in the sun!
“Come to the party,” they all said in unison.
One by one, they left the room. Tommy could hear music playing in the living room. And talking. A lot of people were talking. Was his whole family there?
Tommy didn’t know what to do. He was too scared to move, but he had to get out of the house.
He decided to get up and go to the front door.
If he could sneak past his zombie family and make it to the front door, he could get out safe!
He tiptoed, careful not to make any sound.
The floors creaked beneath him. “Sh,” he told them, his voice shaking.
He made it down the hallway. Near the living room, he could see that there was in fact a big party going on. All his family members were there, talking, dancing, and eating like they usually did.
But they were all zombies! His aunt was hunched over. She gave him a dark smile.
Tommy screamed.
They all looked at him.
The front door was so close. Just two steps away. But Tommy was frozen in fear.
They stepped closer to him.
One step.
Two steps.
They were all reaching out to grab him.
Tommy backed into the T.V.
“It’s time for breakfast,” his mother said. She held out a plate of brains for him. “It’s your favorite.”
Tommy jetted for the door as fast as he could, his legs pumping like when he went to steal 3rd base in his last baseball game. The door was so close. He turned the knob, but it didn’t open. The door was locked!
Tommy tried to unlock it but no matter which way he turned the knob, it didn’t open!
He could feel them coming up behind him. They were so close now.
Tommy shut his eyes and turned around.
But then nothing happened.
He opened his left eye. Then his right.
The room was empty.
He was home alone.
